George Bush opens up on relationship with Michelle Obama |
It would probably surprise you to find out that former American president George W. Bush and former first lady Michelle Obama are in fact, buddies.
According to Today, you only have to check out the unusual friendship between Bush and Michelle Obama to prove that a Republican and a Democrat can have a harmonious relationship.
Bush gushed about his fun and light type of friendship with the former first lady. In September, 2016, the duo were seen taking a photo together during the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres recently, Bush said, "I'm kind of a needler, and she handles it pretty well.
(The friendship) surprised everybody. That's what's so weird about society today, (the surprise) that people on opposite sides of the political spectrum can actually like each other," he added.
Despite being on opposite sides, the duo have a shared sense of humour which started the friendship in the first place.
Bush and Mrs. Obama are usually seen seating next to each other during official events such as the opening of the museum. He told People, "She kind of likes my sense of humor. Anybody who likes my sense of humor, I immediately like. I needle her a little bit and around her, I’m fairly lighthearted. (The Obamas) are around serious people all the time and we just took to each other."
Both of them have a soft spot for giving aid to the U.S. veterans. Bush launched a new book called, Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief's Tribute to America's Warriors, and the earnings will be donated to the veterans.
Obama, on the other hand, spearheaded the Joining Forces intiative to help the service members together with Dr. Jill Biden.
Bush was asked if he also has the same relationship with former President Barack Obama.
He jokingly told Ellen, "Let's put it this way, he's never given me a hug that way.''
It doesn't mean that if you're from different sides, especially in the political spectrum, that you can't be friends.
Nigerian politicians need to learn from this.
